What not to eat during a heat wave !

Some foods help to keep the summer heat in check, while others can worsen the condition. These are some foods to avoid in summer, if you want to stay hydrated.
Excess salt
Salt is also referred to as sodium chloride, and is used to flavour food. The high levels of salt in a diet can lead to various health issues, including bloating, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Notably, when too much sodium enters the body, it causes kidneys to go out of whack and dehydration happens. That means the body will pull out water from the cells. So, it’s recommended to reduce salt intake in your diet.
Tea and coffee
If you wish to keep yourself cool and hydrated in the scorching summer heat, avoid or reduce the consumption of hot beverages like tea or coffee. That’s because they tend to increase the overall temperature of the body, and disturb the digestive system. Instead, consume nimbu paaniaam pannachaas, etc.
Certain spices
It is always suggested to avoid spicy food in the summer season, otherwise, it can take a toll on your health. Spicy foods mostly contain capsaicin, which adversely affects the pitta dosha that triggers body heat, which in turn, results in excessive sweating, boils on the skin, dehydration etc.
Therefore, one should avoid consuming spicy foods, when the temperatures are soaring.
Fried and junk food
It’s no secret that fried foods aren’t good for you, but this is another big reason to avoid them. Whether it is your favourite samosa, burgers, french fries, junk foods, etc, all these foods can dehydrate you, plus they are especially difficult to digest in the summer months. These foods have a negative impact on your overall health.
Pickles
Pickles make your mouth pucker, and are fermented. Besides, they are high in sodium, which can lead to water retention, swelling, and bloating. It can also lead to indigestion, if you drink too much pickle juice. Diets high in sodium can trigger infections and ulcers.
So friends, avoid these foods to stay healthy and hydrated this summer season.
